Biography

Dr. Nethanel Asher, a medical oncology specialist, currently serves as the Director of the Skin Cancer and Melanoma Center at the Davidoff Center at Beilinson Hospital. He was appointed to this position after serving as the head of the skin tumor team at the Ella Lemelbaum Institute of Immunooncology at Sheba Medical Center in Israel for 7 years.

He graduated from medical school in 2009 with honors and completed his specialization at Ichiliv, Tel Aviv in 2017. Since obtaining his medical oncology specialist certification, Dr. Asher has focused on clinically diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients diagnosed with melanoma and other skin cancers.

Dr. Asher’s interests include the toxicity profiles of immunotherapy drugs and their combinations, the development of medical practice and quality of care, oncology education, and collaboration with medical, surgical, and dermatological teams. He also focuses on the quality of life of cancer patients and their approach to participating in clinical trials.

Dr. Asher is an invited speaker and chair at several oncological, surgical, and dermatological conventions, both national and international, focusing on the latest updates and treatment paradigms for complex cases.

With a focus on clinical education, he serves as a lecturer on international internships for oncologists and is an invited lecturer for various courses on immunotherapy and melanoma – for medical oncologists, internal medicine residents, emergency medicine teams, plastic surgery teams, otolaryngologists, general surgeons, family physicians, oncology nurses, and pharmacists.

Clinical annotations are integrated with biological samples (serum, microbiome, and others) and analyzed in the Ella Institute laboratories.
  • 2018-present – Member of the Israeli Oncology Specialization Committee – responsible for the skin cancer and immunotherapy section
  • 2021-present – Steering Committee and member of the consortium in EUMelaReg (www.eumelareg.org) – a high-quality registry of real-world data concerning patients with melanoma in the European setting. Active member of the steering committee, as well as the scientific and data access committee, and the publication and dissemination committee.

  • Joint Sheba-Bar Ilan research grant awarded on December 15, 2022, for the project “Deciphering Immunotherapy Modulation by Gut Microbiota to Improve Cell Therapy in Metastatic Melanoma.” The grant was awarded to Dr. Lior Lobel (BIU), Dr. Yochai Wolf, and Dr. Nethanel Asher (SMC).
